V-DesignTM - Virtualization Solution Design

After the assessment is complete, we offer a Virtualization Solution Design for those solutions considered for implementation.  The Virtualization Solution Design is normally a 2-3 day project where our virtualization experts use assessment information in combination with input from key customer team members to design the target virtualized environment.

Generally speaking, each Solution Design includes the following considerations:

  • Security & Backup:  Understand the current security and backup policies and ensure that any resulting solution design will be in compliance with the company's security and backup policies.
  • Target Server Environment:  Establish the target server environment including  the design of the target server "farm" and configuration of new servers and re-purposed servers.  Initial design of which Virtual Servers are to be associated with which physical server nodes.  Specific physical server configuration is established including, CPU quantity and speed, Memory, and I/O requirements based on number and type of Virtual Servers that will reside on the physical node.
  • Target Desktop Environment (if applicable): Establish the target desktop environment including  the configuration of virtual desktop including performance, storage and memory requirements.
  • Target Networking Environment: Review existing network environment and configuration and design the target networking environment including both physical and virtual LAN infrastructure and SAN connectivity (usually Fiber or iSCSI).
  • Target SAN Storage Environment:  Using assessment information on existing direct-attached storage, NAS and SAN storage as well as storage growth estimates, the team will design the target SAN environment including any special connectivity requirements.
  • Business Continuity:  Design the business continuity policies used in the virtualized environment based on company's current processes combined with new functionality available in target virtualized environment.
